London [UK], October 5: A tanker has again come under fire in the Strait of Hormuz, the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) reported on Sunday, citing the vessel's captain.
The ship was struck by an unknown projectile, with damage reported to the engine room. There were no injuries, according to the UKMTO report.
The strait, which is only 35 to 40 kilometres wide at its narrowest point, has become a central flashpoint between Iran and the United States in the Iran war.
Attacks on shipping in the waterway, which is vital to global energy trade, have again been occurring regularly of late.
Iran has largely blocked traffic through the strait since the start of the war in late February, through threats and attacks on vessels. The US military has also attacked Iranian civilian ships.
