London [UK], April 12: Prince Harry has been sued for defamation by the charity Sentebale, which he co-founded. Court documents also show that former board member Mark Dyer is a co-defendant in the case, Variety reported on April 10.
According to a lengthy statement posted on Sentebale's website on April 10, the organization identified the two individuals as "those behind a negative media campaign," which allegedly spread widely and triggered a wave of cyberattacks targeting the organization and its leadership.
Internal conflict led to the case being taken to court.
The statement read: "Sentebale has initiated legal proceedings in the Supreme Court of England and Wales. The organization is seeking intervention, defense and compensation from the court following an organized and unfavorable media campaign, which began on March 25, 2025, and caused disruption to operations and damage to the reputation of the organization, its leadership team and strategic partners."
Sentebale added that the leadership believes those who support the organization's mission will understand that taking legal action, however difficult, is necessary and important in the current context.
Conversely, a representative from Sunshine Sachs Morgan & Lylis, speaking on behalf of Prince Harry and Mark Dyer, rejected all the allegations. The representative argued that using charitable funds to pursue legal action against the very people who built and supported the organization for nearly two decades was unacceptable, instead of dedicating those resources to the communities the organization serves.
Sentebale was founded in 2006 by Prince Harry and Prince Seeiso of Lesotho, with the aim of supporting young people in Lesotho and Botswana, focusing on health issues, economic inequality, and adaptation to climate change. The organization was founded by Prince Harry in memory of his late mother, Princess Diana.
By March 2025, both co-founders, along with several board members, had resigned simultaneously. In a joint statement at the time, they stated that their relationship with the chairman of the board had deteriorated to an irreparable extent, creating a situation that could not be sustained.
